On Saturday, May 9, the 47th Annual St. Johns Parade will once again make its way through North Portland streets.  Like last year, the St. Johns Bizarre will offer up peculiar attractions and a carnival will provide plenty of rides and games.  The theme of this year’s parade is “Great Moments in History," acknowledging Oregon's 150th birthday.

The 2009 Rose Festival princesses will be on hand as well, each representing their Portland high school.  This year several suburban high schools have been added to the Ambassador Court, as the court becomes more inclusive of other area high schools.

At this year’s parade, the St. Johns Bachelor Club will be honored for their 100th anniversary.  There won’t be a Master of Ceremonies this year, but the Grand Marshall representing the Bachelors Club, Bill Flatner, aka Brother Hum, will be there to keep a watchful eye on the procession. The 2009 St. Johns Citizen of the Year will be Jerrie Johnson.

ST. JOHNS BIZARRE: 10am-8pm, Street Closure starts at 2pm, from North Richmond to North Baltimore

The St. Johns Bizarre is in its third year and still going strong.  As of now the Bizarre will be providing strange entertainment and good fun on North Lombard Street, between North Richmond and North Baltimore avenues.  This year the Bizarre will consist of food, arts and crafts vendors from North Portland, as well as a “Creation Station” providing arts and crafts for young children.

The Beer Garden (Ye Old Der Bier Garten) will have a humorous feature this year, consisting of what is being called “death by bratwurst” executions.  (People are encouraged to bring their bongo drums to provide the execution drum roll.)  FOR MORE ST JOHNS BIZARRE INFO GO TO THE ST JOHNS BIZARRE PAGE
