SENTINEL NEWS SERVICE ~ Jason Kaplan

While working on an article for the upcoming issue I met four-year-old Avarie, her parents and three siblings.  Last October Avarie was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia.  Her illness does not respond well to chemo therapy so her best hope is a bone marrow transplant.  She is currently preparing to undergo this surgery later in the spring.  Since her diagnosis, she has only been well enough to be home for 37 days.

Her parents have lost their jobs and now spend all their time caring for Avarie and their other three children.  Currently the organization Summit For Kids is conducting a fund raiser to help the Giles with their expenses.  Please read about her in tomorrow's Street Edition of the Sentinel or go to  http://www.summitforkids.org or to learn more about Avarie's to donate to her cause.
